Damien Flood

After studying Painting in Dun Laoghaire College, where he graduated in 2003 with a B.A in Fine Art, Damien has recently completed a Masters in Fine Art from the National College of Art & Design. “The idea for these images originally came from the viewing of renaissance art and my realisation that the ‘realism’ I was seeing was not so.” Art critic, Aidan Dunne referred to Damien’s “elegantly made paintings,” which “located themselves between fact and fiction based on a 19-th century exploratory voyage.On the rising calibre of graduate-level art in Ireland, Dunne calls these shows “essential stepping stone to a subsequent career and, more, a chance to put yourself on the map.” With college shows now considered to be on par with professional commercial gallery exhibitions, Damien Flood is undoubtedly on his way to this big time.
